Kung Fu Panda 2

A quick warning for any of my adoption friends thinking about going to see the new Kung Fu Panda movie---the movie is great, but be warned, it is full of adoption issues.

We went to see it without reading reviews and were blindsided by the adoption content. I was intermittently irritated, crying, angry and excited with the presentation of adoption.

The movie was very fun to watch and setting aside issues with Chin*se mysticism and finding 'inner peace', which we use as tools to have good discussions with our children.

I should have been more diligent though with the adoption part.

The kids loved the movie, but I must say, that we saw the movie on Saturday and I can tell that Caleb is still processing what he saw by issues we are dealing with. Not to say it will be bad in the long run, but some prep before hand may have been helpful.

This site has a good review of the movie---It does have spoiler content, but I think it would be helpful to prep our special treasures before hand.

I find it interesting that I had heard nothing about this content before from the adoption circles. So here you are.

Hopefully this will help you enjoy the movie and start some conversations with your treasures.

The Blind Side

Remember the movie The Blind Side is coming out this weekend. Looks like it will be a good watch.

Praying that many Christians will be moved to help those children who have no one else!!! It is time to see a great movement in the people of God!!!

Just saw this trailer on the Christian Alliance for Orphans site. WOW!!! I was crying. When she calls him "son" with such conviction it just moved me so much. And the end when she is told she is changing his life and she says 'No, he is changing my life'! WOW!! Hollywood can get somethings right. And I plan on seeing this one. Just wanted to get the news out about an 'orphan' story done right!!!

Up!

Caleb, Hannah and I went to see the movie "UP" today! Now here is a movie I can recommend! What fun for all of us. Hannah and Caleb especially enjoyed it, as it was only their second time in the big theater. The sweet love portrayed in so many aspects was a delightful change from so much we see today. I encourage you to take the time to see it and support good, clean family fun!

Taking Action

This message was in my email this morning. I encourage you to take a look and pray about what God would have you do. Just watching the trailer for this movie made me cry for the untold numbers of children who share the name "orphan".


Take a moment to take the side of those who cannot speak for themselves.

Orphans Deserve Better is a grassroots campaign to counter the new Warner Bros movie Orphan.

However far-fetched some stories are, they can still subtly shape the way we see the world. So when a major motion picture leaves the impression that orphans are damaged goods and that adoption can destroy your family, those who know the deeper truth must speak up.

People deserve to know better. They should hear about the great needs orphans face…the joy found in loving them…and practical steps each of us can take to do so.

Martian Child

I had never heard of this movie until I saw the trailer last week. I was able to find it today and enjoyed it very much. The story of a widowed man, adopting a very withdrawn little boy and their challenges to attatch to one another. It made me laugh and cry both, I would recommend definately recommend it. Those whom have adopted will relate and those who have not will be better able to understand those who have adopted and the unique challenges that come with it.
