How else would our family celebrate most any holiday or anything for that matter? Yep, you got it, we went to a road race--all 5 of us at home that is.
Here are David, Hannah and Caleb ready for the big race. Drew ran off as soon as the car was stopped to go warm up.
David and Drew ran 6 miles. Drew was 5th of over 400 runners, not too bad! David was happy with his reverse splits in his race.
Caleb is showing us his long distance ability with a 14:43 2 mile race. He was probably top 25 of over 200 runners.
Now there was Hannah and me! She happily informed me this morning that her shoes were too small and hurt her feet. Oh well you can't run in flip flops, so on they went. In the first two blocks she asked to walk and I was thinking that this is a two mile run, with the first mile down hill and then coming back up the hill to finish, so I encouraged her on. Soon we got the
pouting and staring at Mom. Still I encourage on to the water at a 3/4 mile. I let her walk to drink then pushed her to the turn around. We then walked a bit. Within 200m she saw Drew heading for the finish and she was off a running again. Something about her brother spurred her on. She ran on and off all the way back. When we hit 100m to go, we saw Dad coming up on us, but she had nothing left and he passed her. Real good effort for her.
Then we walked the booths. Bought some honey, apple cider and a new grape plant. Also bought a kabob from a group raising funds to do a medical mission in Kenya.
Finally we ended up at the small reservoir being fed by this small snow melt stream!
Yep--it is very cold, numbing actually.
You have to enjoy the pain in David's face as he reached waist
deep. I know it is good for sore muscles, but I stopped at my knees!
Hannah was smarter than us all and she played in the sand! She actually got a little wet, but she has such a hard time warming up since she has no body fat!
Erinn is spending the day at Fort Hood with all the military festivities there.
Heard something about Danielle Kayaking or something today.
We are off to the store to look for some holiday deals for new shoes for Hannah. Then relaxing, maybe finishing Narnia with the little ones-David has a hard time watching a whole movie at one sitting! Then off to the fireworks this evening.
May you have a blessed 4th of July, as we celebrate the birth of
our wonderful nation! May God continue to bless our nation!
Philippians 4:4-9
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. and the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

So...what are "reverse splits" in David's race?
And if you share your ironing secret w/ David, he could probably handle an entire movie! :) Ha, ha!
Reverse splits are when you run the second half of the race faster than the start. Most of us tend to run faster at the begining and slow down as we go.
